Amazing family in need! . Heather is a kindergarten teacher at Prairie View Elementary who is facing an extremely long recovery and steep uphill battle to get her life back. Heather had knee replacement surgery in May 2019. Quickly after coming home from this surgery, an infection set in on her knee. This required a picc line for long term antibiotics to try and clear the infection. Unfortunately, the infection was too intense and doctors had no choice but to reopen her knee and try and remove the infection. This helped for four months and the family thought they had made it past the worst of the situation; however, this was not the case. In early October, Heather developed a high fever alerting her doctor that something was very wrong. She was transported to Barnes in St. Louis where she was told another infection had taken hold with vengeance. She was septic and now facing aggressive and extensive surgery that will remove the artificial knee and insert antibiotics spacers into the space. She will also need to be administered 6 weeks of strong antibiotics through a special IV. During this time she will not have a knee which will prevent her from walking and do most things. Once this infection is gone, she will then have to undergo another knee replacement surgery. Heather will be out of work for a minimum of five months. She is devastated as she knows the financial impact this will have on her family and the emotional impact this will have on her students. They are so attached to their loving kindergarten teacher and will miss her dearly. Recently the class was awarded a pajama party day at school. One little girl did not have pajamas and Heather asked the school nurse if she had any in the clinic and she did not. A bit later she walked into the nurse's office with a pair of pajamas for the little girl. Heather took her lunch break to go to the store and get this student pajamas so she would not feel left out. She did not want the little girl or her class to know that she did this so she asked the nurse to give the pajamas to the girl after lunch. The little girls face lit up when she saw she had a pair of pajamas. Heather does this type of kindness frequently. She is one to jump in and help a coworker, student, friend without hesitation Please help us help this family mend with one less worry on their minds .Heather, is married and they have a spunky five year old daughter. We would love to help them financially so at least one worry can be calmed. Between loss of income, costly medical expenses they really need our help. Her mother who lives with Heather was also very sick at the beginning of the school year which Heather had to use her allotted sick days. Any amount you can give would help the family get by until Heather can get back to doing what she loves.
