Help for Hazel’s Medical Bills
Hi there, I'm Shira. I adopted my dog, Hazel, in October 2020 from the San Francisco SPCA. When she arrived, she was terrified of people, didn’t know how to play with toys, and barely ate — she was completely shut down. It took a month for her to allow me to pet her head. With patience and love, she’s started to trust again and has blossomed.
Although she’s only 2, I discovered a lump on the side of her snout and another on her side. After several tests, it was confirmed that she had a cancerous tumor on her snout and a small bullet/pellet in her side. Most importantly, the cancer did not spread and after surgery, she is now cancer and bullet-free.
Unfortunately, due to some unlucky timing and a loophole, my pet insurance is refusing to pay any portion of the $8,000 bill — a hard loss to absorb while keeping up with rent in the Bay Area and all of my other bills.
This is the first time I’ve publicly asked for help, and it makes me uncomfortable, but I recognize when I need to. If you’re in a place to give, Hazel and I would be forever grateful for any amount you can spare.
