Urgent Alzheimer Trauma Help for Haydee Rodriguez

Donation protected
Hello, I am Angelita Castañeda and I want to share with you the situation with my family.

We´re from Caracas-Venezuela. Some of my family still live there, my aunts and my mom. The rest of my siblings and cousins live overseas. We live in anguish and fear for our parents who still live there, during a prolonged and profound humanitarian and economic crisis, who are in their seventies, and whom we don´t know whether they have eaten properly, or even been able to buy food. With the appalling lack of security there, most days we don´t know how they are coping, we just hope for the best and that they are able to get by on whatever it is possible for us to send them.

My aunt Haydee is 74 years old and has Alzheimer´s disease.  Her only son died in a car accident with my other cousin when he was 14 years old and she became widowed after losing her husband 15 years ago. Until recently she has been able to live on her own. Usually my mum and aunts take turns in helping her by visiting her, cooking for her and bringing her groceries each week, calling her every day to see how she´s doing. Since isolation was enforced due to covid-19 it has been impossible for them to provide this support. To further compound matters, gas has become near impossible to buy so even if they were able to go out they would have no means of getting there.

On the 4th of May they stopped going to her house but maintained phone contact. On the 7th of May Haydee stopped answering the phone. Obviously really worried, they walked an hour to her house to see what was happening. When they got to her apartment it was one of the most terrible sight they could experience. They found her in the bathroom with her body twisted between the toilet and the bathtub with her head was hanging backwards so no oxygen was flowing and bruises on her back.

We don´t know exactly how many hours it had been since she fell, or how long she had been in that position. They managed to get her to a hospital, helped by 2 men, but they weren’t able to perform the necessary tests. So they took her, with almost no gas, to another hospital where they made the medical report. She has medical and degenerative bone issues, scoliosis and cervical inflammation, and she was totally dehydrated, and unable to move by herself.

Alzheimer´s disease is one of the most frightening diseases for someone in your family. It is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that starts slowly and gradually worsens over time. Making your loved one fade bit by bit. With Venezuela’s situation, there is no help for the elderly. Haydee spent 30 years working for a telephone company, but now no care or support for her needs.  So my aunts had to carry her back to my aunt´s house after the hospital.

As a result of my aunts fall, we already have a sum of 1892 dollars in bills for:

·         Medical reports

·         Medicine

·         Doctor visits

·         MRI

·         TAC

·         Blood work

The most frightening thing for us is that we can´t pay that amount of money. Your donation would make a huge impact and will improve my aunt Haydee’s life and my family, we would be eternally grateful.

We are hoping to raise 5676$ for the medical bills and to provide 3 months’ care for my aunt, including:

·         Physiotherapy

  Monthly Renting and transport of:

·         Crane to move her

·         Wheelchair

·         Sanitary Chair

·         Electric bed

Donations of any amount are welcome, and every contribution will help.

You can also help us sharing our fundraiser to friends and family, or sharing on your social media, the more people see it, we´ll have more opportunities for people to donate.

This case or similar is one of many that Venezuelans have to deal with on a daily basis, your help is really important to us. This emergency has taken a toll on my mother and aunts and they deserve and need rest themselves. They will continue to walk an hour and a half to get where Haydee is and help my other aunt to take care of her even though they risk their lives every time they do so.
Thank you for reading and helping us.  #Help4HaydeeVZLA #ayudaHaydeeVZLA
