Halsten the Superhero!

Update……

Thank you for the love & prayers! We’ve arrived safe & settled in Augusta, staying at the Ronald McDonald house. It’s an incredible place, right next to the Children’s Hospital of Georgia. Our first appointment went well, and so far, meds are being tolerated without major side effects.

If you’ve ever met Halsten, you know he loves you! As Halsten’s aunt, that’s the only thing I’ve ever felt from him. Even when he’s been prepping for surgery or radiation. No matter what he has thrown at him, he pauses and lets you know you’re loved.

If you haven’t met Halsten, let me tell you a little about him and his story. Halsten is one of the kindest but spunkiest kids out there.

When he was almost two years old, doctors found his first brain tumor. In December of 2013 he had his first brain surgery in order to remove that tumor.

In 2016, his brain tumors returned. August of that year he would return to the hospital for a second brain surgery where they would remove a 1 inch by 1/2 inch tumor from his brain stem.

Fast forward to September of 2019 when he has yet another brain surgery. A similar sized tumor as the previous one was removed.

Halsten’s most recent and fourth surgery was February, 2022.

Four brain surgeries, cancerous tumors, radiation, chemo… doesn’t matter to Halsten. If you asked why him, he would respond with why not. His whole life has been in and out of hospitals but all he cares about is when he gets to see his cousins or what Lego set is coming out next or what Switch games he can beat his brother at.

This year, as Halsten and his family have battled these challenges, God knew they were strong enough to handle a house flood and a car breakdown on top of it all. But yet they all still sacrifice to take care of those around them. If they saw a story like Halsten’s, they’d donate what they could. But this time, we want them to know they’re loved by their closest relatives and by complete strangers. We hope our goal of relieving some of these financial burdens can become your goal too.

We love you Halsten!
