Hi, my name is Amanda, I am trying to raise funds to get my daughter, Hallie, a new power wheelchair. Hallie was born with Arthrogryposis Mulitiplex Congenita (AMC) and has been wheelchair bound her entire life. Because of her AMC her power wheelchair has to be custom fitted to her body shape and disability needs. She also has extremely limited upper body mobility to the point she can not even raise her arms. She has lost everything she owns. Her clothes, electronics, her APOs that help keep her feet flat after her many surgeries to extend her tendons, her power wheelchair. Everything!
She moved out of my home in January of 2024 after meeting the man she felt was her forever. She got married and ended up moving in with her husband and his parents. There was contact from her to our family in the beginning but it slowly decreased until we no longer heard anything from her. She had never hinted at anything being wrong so we figured she was living married life happily, building thier future together. It turns out that her husband had completely isolated her from anyone she knew. To keep her from contacting her family for help he would take her phone and leave her on a mattress on the floor with the bedroom door shut. The dirty room, insect infestation and four walls were her company during those times.
On 8/16/2025 we received a call, her husband had been arrested and charged with two counts of felony assault, she was his victim. He strangled her to the point of black and blue bruises around her neck while slamming her head into the wall. Keep in mind because of her disability she had no way to stop him or defend herself. Neighbors heard her screams from three houses down and contacted police. All of the adults living in the home knew this was happening and none did anything to stop it or help Hallie. This was the beginning of a terrible nightmare unfolding. This wasn't the first time he had beaten or abused her. We also found out that she was forced to live in horrible conditions. So bad the resondonding EMS and the fire department had to go in with with hazmat suits and breathing equipment. Responders took her out through her bedroom window because they refused to go back the way they came. There was no air-conditioning and the house could be smelled from the street! There was roach and bed bug infestations, dishes piled high with mold and maggots. Piles of feces and urine from dogs, cats, and reptiles littering the floor that had been there long enough to cause permanent damage to the flooring. For all intense and purposes this house should be condemned as a bio hazard....and Hallie was forced to live in it. As we have continued to dig through this nightmare we have found evidence that all of this treatment was planned and intentional. Messages discovered between her husband and his family speak of throwing her out but not before using her to get everything they can from her first. They took all of her disability money, used her to finance thier lives and pay for thier home. When the home went into foreclosure they used her and her disability to get mortgage relief. She was given little to no food. Kept isolated and made to belive she had nobody but them to depend on.
Hallie was admitted into the hospital on the night of her husband's arrest to heal and placed into protective custody. While there it was determined that she was last bathed in January of 2024. Her hair was last washed in April of 2025 with a water hose in the yard. When I arrived to her room in the hospital she was defeated and somber, afraid to speak on many of the things that had happened. To say she was neglected is an understatement. While trying to assure her she was now safe, I brushed the mold filled mats out of her hair. It took five and a half hours. Her skin is in terrible condition and will take time and lots of cleaning to heal.
Hallie is getting therapy for the mental issues this has caused for her. Our family has rallied as best we can to help get her some clothing. A generous community member donated a bed for her so she could come home to me after being released from the hospital. Adult services is seeing that she is getting some of the items like bed pads that she needs and physical therapy.
Yesterday, 8/20/2025 Hallie spoke with a judge who has agreed that should she wish she may get her own place and released her from the custody she was under. She stated that in a few months she would like to do that as she feels a need to rediscover herself. For her to do that she will first need a power wheelchair to begin her road for healing and independence. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Should there be extra funds it will be used to help her establish her own place when she is ready. Please share Hallie's story.
Today we were informed more arrest are forthcoming. We will update as more unfolds.
