Help Abricots, Haiti

Tax deductible

Friends of Paradis des Indiens was created to provide financial assistance to Fondation Paradis des Indiens (FPDI) and the people of Abricots, a small fishing village in the south of Haiti. FPDI was created to serve the poorest children of Abricots. These children had not attended school out of a lack of desire, but rather because they could not afford the uniforms and shoes required by the local public and parochial schools.

This school system includes the original Village School, as well as eight satellite mountain schools. Today, there are 2,492 students enrolled and the Fondation Paradis des Indiens employs over 200 teachers, administrators, support staff and artisans worearking in the workshops.

Friends of Paradis des Indiens, Inc. is a 501 © 3 Non-Profit Charitable Organization created to raise funds to support education for the Fondation Paradis des Indiens Schools. We combat illiteracy in Abricots, Haiti through education, construction of schools and programs that foster children's capacity to be productive adults. Our goal is to also create an empowered, self-sufficient community by fundraising to promote the modernization of the existing resources of the region.

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT:

Most of the schools were destroyed by Hurricane Matthew and rebuild. However, the Saut Balisier school has not been rebuilt. Classes have been conducted under tarps (see photo). This school has 406 students enrolled. The classes are overcrowded and the students are literally one on top of the other. Surprisingly, it is one of the best performing schools! Education is that important to them!

The photo above was taken a year ago and the conditions have greatly deteriorated. The construction for a new school is so costly, because they must be rebuilt to ensure that the structure is anti-seismic and hurricane proof. All our schools serve as shelters for natural disasters, such as earthquakes and hurricanes for the community. Rebuilding Saut Balisiers will not only provide a place conducive for learning, but will also serve as a shelter in case of a natural disaster.

The cost of this construction project is approximately $280,000 USD.

EARTHQUAKE:

The recent earthquake and tropical storms yet again caused damage in the Abricots area. The homes are leaking and need to be covered. The springs are muddied and the water needs to be filtered to avoid further disease. We also need assistance in purchasing a portable filter. The cost of the tarps and filter is approximately $6,000 USD.

Make a difference by donating today to Friends of Paradis Des Indiens Inc. Your support is greatly appreciated.

With gratitude,
