Hi, my name is Jaime. I'm not one to ask for help, but we are hitting a really hard time for my son. This past year has been pretty tough on my little boy's health. On July 29th, Gunnar was admitted to the hospital for a pre-op bowel cleanout. Unfortunately, the cleanout didn't work because of an impaction. That, along with a fever, pushed Gunnar's operation back two days. Gunnar had a cecostomy button placed due to his colon's inability to sense stool or move it out. The idea behind placing the button was to flush him out daily to prevent impaction and help his colon heal. During surgery, they discovered his colon was very weak and tearing in some spots. Currently, he is battling a slight infection and the possibility of another operation because of his colon being weak. All of this is super scary, especially for Gunnar. He is currently losing weight pretty fast, which could result in a feeding tube to ensure he gets the nutrition he needs. All of this has been super hard, but we have been managing. I just recently received a phone call regarding Gunnar's medical supplier. They are no longer covering any of his supplies due to insurance. Gunnar has two insurances, but they still won't cover any of it. We are trying our hardest to fight this; however, we are running low on supplies, and this is a huge financial hit. With all of his upcoming appointments causing me to miss work and the insurance failing to cover these supplies, this will become very expensive. I truly hate to ask for any help, but even a little just to get us through the next month or two to get us back on our feet. Anything is immensely appreciated.
My husband works two jobs and picks up all the overtime he can. Trying to get ahead, build a house, and give Gunnar all the care he needs. Unfortunately, we have made the hard decision to pause on building our dream to ensure we stay afloat and give Gunnar everything he needs.
Gunnar is a loving, crazy kiddo who is going through so, so much right now. All we want to do is give him the world. He deserves so much <3
It’s been a tough journey, Gunnar was in the hospital yesterday with an infection. He’s a trooper but he’s in some pain. Unfortunately through all this he’s losing weight at a pretty fast rate which is pretty concerning. With more frequent appointments and me missing work. Things are getting tough. Even some positive thoughts sent out way as we navigate through this hard time.
