Hello everyone. My name is Mikayla Durney. I live in Northern California. I am Gary Durney’s only child. On Monday evening I received a call that my dad was in the E.R due to shortness of breath & an unusually high heart rate. (190 BPM) I don’t know why, but I had the intuition that I needed to be there immediately. I spoke with him Monday evening and he seemed to be in good spirits. Laughing with the nurses & complaining that he couldn’t eat a cheese burger (because he was on a liquid diet at that point.) I booked a plane ticket and was leaving Tuesday morning. When I called the hospital that morning to check his progress, they informed me he had been intubated and sedated. There was a breathing ventilator breathing for him because of all the fluid in his lungs and his heart only working 35-40%. When I arrived on Tuesday and in the days following they informed me he has suffered a heart attack, congestive heart failure, acute kidney failure, bacterial pneumonia, ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation. He has been on life support for 1 week now. I have been trying to petition to become his conservator and get emergency guardianship. The process is still in motion. Unfortunately, his rent was due on the 1st and I have no access to his bank account. If I don’t get the full amount of rent due by the end of the month, then pay the rent on February 1st, he will be evicted from his home. I will have no where to stay while I am here in Colorado to support my dad. I am also driving his diesel truck and trying to take care of all his bills, including medical. He has been in the ICU since Monday, December 30th, 2019. I haven’t even asked to see the bill yet because I know I’m going to be overwhelmed with the amount this stay will cost him. Unfortunately his job doesn’t provide disability plans, short or long term so he will be receiving no income while he is out of work. This was completely unexpected, my dad is 54 years old and usually strong and healthy. Any amount would be helpful to contribute to his medical recovery and for my well being. Worrying about money and security has taken a toll on top of this stressful and draining situation. Thank the you so much family and friends for support, emotional, physical, mental & financial ❤️ I can’t thank you all enough.
