Help for Father Oscar
Donation protected
My name is Cindy Waddick, and I am raising funds for Fr. Oscar. Eleven years ago, the Pope approved the establishment of an English-Speaking Parish so those who do not have a good grasp of Spanish yet, would still be able to fully participate in religious services. Fr. Oscar offers mass and other services here each week. The Coronado Catholics at Monte Carmelo is a small group, but we really value being a community. For me here alone, they have become a lifeline. I have only known Father for 3 months, but I have been so impressed by his goodness and learning about all the ways he helps people.
In mid-September, Fr. Oscar suffered a stroke and was in the hospital for 10 days. Now he is released and requires 24-hour live-in care and someone to come in and cook special food in the way he needs to have it. Father’s recovery could take between 3 and 6 months. We expect that as he recovers, the 24-hour live-in help will be able to decrease and so will the cost of that.
Since Father can’t teach or serve his parishes, he doesn’t have much income. His other parish in the City is made up of older, lower-income members without many resources to help. His medical, physical therapy and the live-in support costs come out to about $4,000 a month.
Our church members are standing up to help and asking others they know to help also. Please if you can help make a difference, join us in supporting Father who has given his live to support of others.
