My father, 71 yr old Raul Mendoza Martinez aka "Rudy", retired from the State of Tx in 2012. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2010. After receiving medical treatment, a few years passed and his Dr had told us that they did not get all of the cancer out and it was beginning to spread again.
Now, my father being the strong man that I have always known, had a hard time trying to decide whether or not he wanted to continue any treatment. After having a little extra push from my family, he decided to go ahead and start receiving radiation treatments.
During the last set of the radiation treatments in 2016, my father came home one day and was complaining of a burn that he felt on his back. My mother looked at it and in total disbelief, he had a huge burn mark on his back. He went to multiple Dr's after that due to a few weeks later, he started having pain in his legs and it was harder for him to walk and move. Come to find out, it had been confirmed by multiple Dr's in Houston at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center that my father had been over-radiated. About 6 weeks later, my father became a paraplegic and was confined to a wheel chair for the rest of his life.
After talking with multiple attorneys, we could not find anyone that would accept my fathers case. They stated that no Dr would testify against another Dr in court. We were all devastated. Some careless person would never take responsibility for how they have completely changed our lives.
My father has continued to fight this battle for almost 3 years now. ANYONE that knows my father, knows that he was a very independent man. He LOVES softball, bowling, hunting, painting cars, fishing, and spending time with all of his family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. This has taken our lives to a whole new turn of events that my father could no longer accomplish the same that he could before. My father has taken a turn for the worse now. He has developed many bed sores and has turned septic.
I humbly, come before everyone and our family is asking for any amount of donation that you could spare, to help with overall costs of expenses that will very soon be needed. If there is not any amount that you could give, any prayers would be deeply appreciated for our family and my father during this difficult time.
