Help for Erika - Spinal Cord Injury Recovery Journey
Donation protected
On Tuesday, March 24, Erika was in a major car accident on the McKenzie Highway. She was transported to PeaceHealth Riverbend hospital, where they determined she had several fractures in her lumbar and cervical spine. Erika is now in the Neuro Trauma Intensive Care Unit, recovering from surgery to stabilize the spine.
Her neurosurgeon projects that she has a 5-10% chance to walk again, and if she is able to walk, she will need assistive devices.
This has been quite the journey already and it will be a long road to recovery and a lifetime of changes.
She is surrounded in recovery by love from friends and family near and far. Her family and close friends have gathered in the ICU waiting room to support her immediate family, including her two boys, Ry (24) and Luke (23).
Erika, sometimes called by her nickname Kaka, is generous, caring, hard working, endlessly empathetic, and the first person to offer help to others — and now she needs our help. The family would appreciate any messages of support and encouragement to surround Erika with love, resilience, and positivity.
