On October 27, 2019 Erick and Andy traveled to the Science Center in Queens with Erick's mom, dad and little sister, Lili. The family decided to make a day trip all together. Just before arriving at the museum, another vehicle slammed into their minivan, causing serious injury to Erick and Andy. Erick remains in ICU with a severe brain injury and cranial fractures. His doctors are not sure if he will be able to speak or walk normally again. The process of recovery will be long and the medical expenses could be steep. Erick's family is dedicated to his full recovery and have not left his hospital bedside in Queens since Sunday. The family is not able work at this time. The cost of travel to and from the hospital is also beyond their means as their family car is totaled. Andy's injuries are less severe but will still require weeks of rehab and recovery at home. Please consider donating to support these families as they work to help their boys recover and regain their lives as happy middle-school students in our community. Erick and Andy's younger sisters, 1st graders at PS 139, have returned to school and are staying locally with family friends.
(This fundraising effort is being managed by fellow 1st grade parents Arcelia and Katherine, with help from many others. Katherine will be withdrawing all funds as they come in to give to Erick and Andy's families.)
