Help For Effie (and his mum!)
Donation protected
As many know, Effie has been in a residential school for autism since May, 2017, around the same time that his parents' marriage sadly ended. The stress and strain of having a severely autistic and cognitively impaired son was too much to handle. The school is called Bancroft and is in New Jersey.
Effie's mother, Rivkah, in an almost unprecedented act, successfully secured funding from the State for this placement, however, it has been a continual fight to keep that funding in place. Over these two years, there have been continual threats that, if carried out, would be to Effie's detriment and would reverse the tremendous progress he has made, as well as re-traumatizing her other children who have finally achieved some semblance of normalcy in their lives. Because of these and other factors, Rivkah has been forced into endless litigation over these matters and has spent hundreds of unpaid hours preparing testimony, pouring over and sorting 12thousand pages of medical records, consulting with attorneys, testifying before judges, and yes, crying (but only when no one is looking).
To date she has made 27 visits to the Garden State in order to keep close contact with her beloved Effie. Since Rivkah is in business for herself, of course, those trips also represent considerable lost wages as well as expenses to include flights, hotel, rental cars, and food.
Although a generous benefactor has graciously funded Effie's tuition at Bancroft as well as many of the other fees, another situation has arisen recently that has presented a new set of hardships for Rivkah.
As a single mom to five children who don't pick up after themselves (!); a health care professional who is trying to run a fee-for-service business where payments from third parties stagger in; and a mother who lives a double-life, traveling out of state regularly, the physical, psychological, emotional, and financial strain has grown too much.
Please help if you can. The family thanks you. Effie thanks you.
