Help for Dr. Hofmann & Family
Donation protected
We are reaching out on behalf of Karl and Deanna Hofmann--
On March 7, while seeing patients, Karl suddenly suffered a cerebellar stroke and has been hospitalized since. His mobility and dexterity have been significantly affected, and as of yesterday (March 12) he is now at an in-patient rehab where he will remain for the next couple of weeks or so (insurance will cover up to 20 days there).
Karl and my husband graduated from the same optometry class at The Ohio State University in 2013, and were some of our closest friends the four years we spent in Columbus. Karl purchased a private practice immediately upon graduating and has been the sole practitioner at Miami Valley Vision Center in Eaton, Ohio ever since. With the help of Deanna managing the office, they have built a thriving practice in Eaton.
Karl and Deanna have 4 children ranging from elementary to highschool age, and all of them participate in multiple extracurricular activities (usually coached by Karl or Deanna) which they have successfully juggled in addition to being active in their local church and running a successful practice. But being the sole provider for a practice that employs 6 full time employees (including Deanna) means that Karl now needs some help to keep things functioning while he recovers. Doctors are optimistic that Karl may regain full function again, but intensive rehab will be required and only time will tell. We are asking for donations to keep things going so he and Deanna don't have to stress about the practice, and can focus on Karl and his recovery.
**3/16 update: Karl was able to return home this afternoon, which he is very happy about. We were able to talk to both he and Deanna this evening and while he continues to make progress, he still has a long road ahead. He will be continuing out-patient rehab appointments in the coming weeks. We are all very thankful for his continued progress, and both Karl and Deanna continue to express their sincere gratitude to everyone who has reached out to them and offered help in so many different ways.**
