My wonderful, kind and generous mom, Donna, has recently been evacuated from her home due to a landslide directly adjacent to her dwelling that is threatening the total collapse of her house. Without financial assistance my mom is faced with the impossible decision of becoming homeless or moving back into a house facing imminent collapse.
In the spring of 2020, a crack developed on the land immediately beside her house and turned into a full-on slow-moving land slide. The collapse has resulted in what is now a roughly 12 foot escarpment right under the foundation of her house, which is expected to fall over the cliff at any time. Shortly after Donna was evacuated, she was told that insurance would not assist in any way. She has also been denied funding from both the provincial and federal government.
After suffering from a physically disabling workplace accident while welding over 30 years ago, Donna has struggled for years to find employment while also raising her son alone. Despite these challenges, Donna has prevailed through hard work and dedication and was only two years away from paying off her mortgage, selling her house and retiring. With all of her retirement money put into the equity of her now unsellable house, at 64 years old she is facing financial ruin.
I am humbly asking for donations so that Donna will have the means to afford rent and food during this time. Any contributions, big or small, would be appreciated more than you could possibly know. Thank you so much for reading.
