I am asking for help for a friend and coworker of mine who is desperately in need of assistance. Desi Murray broke her pelvis back in October. Due to being born with Spina Bifida this injury was one that put her in the hospital for roughly a week. After being home for less than a week Desi developed severe fevers and was hospitalized again. She also developed some severe internal bleeding that resulted in her not being able to walk. She endured weeks of tests, MRI, CT scans, blood draws, and more. After getting the CDC involved it was determined that she had a life threatening antibiotic resistant blood infection. Because she had orthopedic hardware the infection would not go away and after 2 weeks of high fevers it was decided that she would need surgery to remove pins and rods from her hip. Desi is on her road to recovery but this road will be long. She was in the hospital a total of 27 days during her 2 stays and now will be continuing with 6 weeks of IV antibiotic treatment at home along with numerous follow ups to ensure that the infection does not come back and also PT to help her walk again. Unfortunately her situation also will prevent her from working and with the amount of time she will be out (2 additional months) she will have no income and the medical bills are already stacking up. Any help you can give no mater how small to assist Desi in this time of need would be so greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your generosity and willingness to help.
