Help for Our Dear Friend, David Goldstein!

Our friend, David Goldstein, is a remarkable man.  He is kind, compassionate, witty, multi-talented, and hard-working. 

David is infinitely dedicated to his family, his three beautiful children, the Houston Jewish Community, and the Greater Community at large.

David has worked to make our Community a better place - joyfully helping people in need, without question. 

He recently completed his 2-year term as Board Chair of The Emery/Weiner School.  Over the decades, he has been actively involved with so many other incredible  organizations, including: Holocaust Museum Houston, ERJCC, Anti-Defamation League, American Jewish Committee, AIDS Foundation Houston, Congregation Beth Yeshurun, Jewish Federation of Austin, and Jewish Federation of Houston.

About six months ago, David started experiencing some significant weakness in his legs and knew something was very wrong. After a barrage of tests that spanned months to figure out what was happening, David received an unimaginable and life changing diagnosis.

The doctors informed David that he was suffering from ALS.

ALS, more commonly known as “Lou Gehrig’s disease,” affects the nervous system, causing progressive muscle weakness and gradual loss of physical function.  As of now, there is no cure for ALS and no “normal“ rate of progression.

Over the last six months, David has gone from walking with a limp, to using a cane and then a walker, and he now relies on a wheelchair.

David is a proud man, a fighter with a self-deprecating sense of humor and someone with the highest level of integrity. Throughout this journey, he has always tried to comfort others, saying “I’m the luckiest guy you’ve ever known.”

David is acutely aware of the physical and financial challenges he is now facing. And so, with reluctance and incredible gratitude, he agreed to allow us to launch this Go Fund Me Campaign.

Our goal is to raise $500,000 to help cover David’s important basic needs, including medical expenses not covered by Medicare, in-home care, transportation, specialized equipment and other needs to support David’s new reality.  

Before launching this Go Fund Me Campaign, we have already received gifts of more than $200,000.
