Help for Cyprus the Cat

Donation protected
Hello Everyone! On July 15th, we adopted two adorable loving kitties, brother and sister, Cyprus and Tremont from the ASPCA here in New York City. He is about 2 years old and she is about 1 years old. For the first month, everything was going great! They were getting settled in here, warming up to us, and instantly became part of the family.

Then, about a week and  half ago or so, on August 20th, Cyprus began dragging his back left leg. I thought that maybe he pulled a muscle or hurt himself, and that maybe it would work itself out with some rest. The next day it was not any better so we had to take him into the emergency vet clinic here in Queens. 1 x-ray and $800 later, we discover that he has partial paralysis in both of his back legs. The vet believed it was neurological, and told us that he would need an MRI and possibly surgery. She also shaved down a section of his back and discovered old scarring from a trauma he must've had at some point that went completely unnoticed by the ASPCA (a fact that the vet couldn't believe, given how noticeable it was). We called th ASPCA and told them all about this, asking for his full medical history. No where in it was any mention of any traumatic incident, or the vets who examined him had noticed it. Trust me, it was entirely noticeable, even not as a vet.

On Sept 1st, we took him to a veterinary specialist for a surgical consultation. He will be getting an MRI and possibly need surgery to help him. There is a pretty good chance he'll be able to walk again, but that remains uncertain now. The cost for the MRI alone is $5,000. If surgery is needed (which it very much looks like), then the total cost will be $8,000.

The ASPCA is refusing to help pay for anything of this, even though it could be negligence on their part for not having thoroughly examined him and found these scars. Had they been discovered, who knows what kind of treatments he could've received even before we got him.

This is a major expense that we were certainly not anticipating having to take on, within a month of adopting two otherwise happy and healthy kitties. He's so young and has a long life ahead of him, and I know that his sister would be lost without him, he's always been there for her.

If you can help out, I would be so eternally grateful. If you can spread the word about this too, that would be a big help.

Thank you all.
