Help for Cushing' s Disease patient Juliana Goode
Donation protected
Our daughter Juliana Goode has been suffering for the past 5 years without a proper medical diagnosis. After 5 years of advocating and searching for answers, she was finally diagnosed with Cushing's Disease by the physicians at the National Institutes of Health Hospital and needed transsphenoidal surgery to remove a tumor located in the pituitary gland near the brain. With the help of the Endocrinologists from the University of Alabama Children's' Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama she was referred to NIH Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland for treatment of Cushing's Disease. She is a straight A student, very loving and a caring child. She aspires to become a research scientist in the future to help save other children that are suffering from rare diseases and cancer. We are all very grateful to the medical staff and doctors that worked hard and carefully diagnosed her.
On September 16, 2019 the surgery was successful and the tumor was removed, however there was an unexpected serious complication post-surgery. She was in the NIH Hospital Intensive Care Unit fighting for her life to recover in an induced coma for 2 weeks. The doctors and medical staff were very professional and worked together to help her recover. She gradually got better and was recently discharged from NIH Hospital. Juliana and her family are now back home in Alabama helping her fully recover and get well again. For approximately the next 12 months Juliana will receive in-home services for school, physical therapy and be monitored constantly while she is on her medications. Her next follow up for post-surgery will be in 6 months at NIH Hospital in Maryland. She currently is under the care of the University of Alabama Children's Hospital endocrinology, hematology, neurology, cardiology and physical therapy teams.
The Goode Family would like to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support, it has helped our family very much during this very difficult time. We will continue to stay strong and work together to help Juliana fully recover from Cushing's Disease and the unexpected complications of her surgery. We truly believe that God, family, our friends and supporters will help us get through this. We would also like to remind everyone to advocate for their loved one's that are ill and never give up searching for answers for a proper diagnosis that could save their life.
