My name is Rebecca Wandertree. I am a wife and mother of 3. We are a happy, loving family and like so many out there - it only takes one little 'push' to invert your world and push you into a financial situation you can't return from.

Our 'push' came this week when my husband was admitted to the hospital with a dangerous brain bleed. He had a debilitating headache for over a week and was initially sent home after being told it was "likely a sinus infection." Last night, they operated to relieve the pressure from the bleed. He is currently in stable condition and for that, we are deeply grateful.

While he recovers and we look to what the future will be, he is (of course) unable to work. We've run through our meager safety net and basic essentials are going to be out of reach within the week. I have been working but our daughter has needed round-the-clock support for her own medical and mental health needs. Going back to full-time work while managing her care and school schedules for all of our kids is not something I can do overnight.

My husband's work transitions at the holidays to a role that brings great joy to children and families all over North Carolina. He has an enormous heart and a joy for life that he brings to his work that is infectious. He is a loving father and a happy and kind person who would quite literally give you the shirt off his back. He knows when you need a smile or friendship - he's that person. He has done so much for so many and yet it is still a challenge to ask for help.
