Help for Chubbs
Donation protected
Many of you in our amazing pug community have been following the story of sweet Chubbs @chubbs_vecc, sister to Molly @mollyvecc and Vice President of Mollyspawtique @mollyspawtique and so you already know she’s unwell. To recap, she suffered an incapacitating back injury which required emergency hospitalization last weekend, followed by total crate rest on heavy pain medication while we hoped for healing. A tentative diagnosis of Interveterbral Disc Disease (IVDD) was given but there was no way to really know without an MRI. A few days later while still on full crate rest she developed pneumonia which required another emergency hospital stay over the holiday weekend. During this time her back deteriorated rapidly. She is unable to stand or walk. This makes the MRI essential, there’s no further opportunity to wait and see if she improves. She can’t have the MRI until her lungs are clear of the pneumonia because of the anesthesia. They are treating her with intravenous antibiotics and hope the MRI can be done on Monday. Depending on the outcome of the MRI, there may be an opportunity for surgical intervention to save sweet Chubbs’ life.
As many of you know, Chubbs’ mom Yvonne has continually donated bows and proceeds from her @mollyspawtique business to various Pug rescues and fundraising causes for other dogs’ medical expenses. She never wanted or expected to ask for anything in return, but we want Chubbs to have the treatment she needs.
Some of you may know that Yvonne’s main source of income is her AirBnB, and that due to the pandemic she had to close her bookings for 14 months. She had a fair amount of bookings this summer, but now that the weather has changed and her hospital interns and medical students are doing all their interviews on Zoom, her bookings have dropped again to almost nothing.
We are unsure at this time what Chubbs’ total bills will be. This will depend on the outcome of the MRI and whether back/neck surgery is recommended. For now we know the hospital stay is running roughly $1,200-$1,500/day (six days so far with more to go), and the MRI is estimated at around $5,000. Yvonne is so thankful that Chubbs does have insurance, so some of this will be covered. But, they don’t pay for specialists and various treatments and stays are covered at different percentages. Right now we aren’t sure how much will be covered but we know there will be a substantial remainder even after the insurance pays its share. We are asking for $10,000 at this time not knowing yet whether surgery and follow up physical therapy will help her. We assure you, all monies collected will be put towards Chubbs current and future medical expenses and any overages will be refunded, donated, or otherwise spent on helping worthy pugs.
Thank you so much for your consideration. Please direct any questions to me, Liz Pearson, @phinneausthepug. Yvonne reads and appreciates every single comment you have all sent her, but is simply too overwhelmed at the moment to reply to all of them.
Even if you can’t donate, please consider sharing the GoFundMe link. I have a very small following but I know many of you have wide connections to our pug community and so if you can spread the word I’d be eternally grateful and so would Yvonne, Molly and Chubbs. Thank you for anything you can do to help. I will provide regular updates.
