Help for Chris and Carla Palkun

As many of you know, our good friend Chris Palkun was intubated and sent to the Grey Nuns Hospital ICU on October 3, 2021 and then transferred to the University of Alberta Hospital ICU on October 9, 2021 where he was a candidate for the Ecmo machine (exchanges oxygen and carbon dioxide for him to help his lungs heal faster). He is still in critical condition and will be on a very slow and long road to recovery from this horrible illness.

His wife Carla is now able to go to the ICU and see Chris, along with his mom Betty. They have been able to talk with Chris and reassure him of all our love and support, and have felt his hand squeeze theirs and small signs showing that he knows they are there with him. Their touch and presence will no doubt lift Chris' spirits and help him continue to fight.

Many of you know Chris personally, so you would know that he has the biggest heart and would stop whatever he was doing to help his family and friends. Everyone who meets Chris is captivated by his friendly nature, his genuine interest, his contagious laugh, and how he's the life of the party and wants everyone to have a great time! He's a family man through and through, always making sure his wife and kids are happy and taken care of, as well as spending quality time with them at home and in the outdoors. He truly is a great man and friend to all those who meet him.

Chris is the primary provider for his family working as a contract operator in the oilfield, and as such doesn't have medical benefits, sick leave benefits or long term illness support. Basically if he doesn't work then he isn't able to support his family and cover their bills or expenses. You can imagine how this has impacted their family and finances. Carla has been unable to work as she is trying to spend as much time with Chris as possible and help him get through this. She has exhausted all other possibilities and options for financial support. Chris has a long road to recovery ahead of him and won't be able to work for quite a while so now is the time for us, their friends and family, to step up and support an amazing wonderful man and family who need our help. Let's do what we can to help them out and be there for someone who you know would be there for any of us if we needed it.
