Help for Chile's Wildfire Victims

Some of the worst wildfires in Chile's history have destroyed more than 273,000 hectares (more than 675,000 acres or about 1054 square miles) of forest and grassland in the last several weeks. 46 active wildfires have been fed by a prolonged drought and temperatures that have topped 100 Fahrenheit (40 Celsius). Hardest-hit is the south-central region of O'Higgins, where fires have destroyed homes, pasture and livestock, with ranchers releasing animals to avoid the oncoming flames. Nine people have died so far and over 1000 homes have burned to the ground. The government has declared a state of emergency in the area. Desafío Levantemos Chile is a Chilean NGO that is collecting donations for provisions for firefighters, animals and displaced people as well as water tanks to combat the fire.
