Chelsea Futrell is the loving mother of two adorable boys named Corbin and Gabe. Chelsea, Corbin and Gabe lost their home, car and most of their personal belongings in Hurricane Dorian, including most of Gabe and Corbin’s toys and clothes.
Though the devastation left in the wake of the destruction of Dorian was horrific, what that storm could not destroy was Chelsea’s heart, mind and spirit.
Those who know Chelsea will tell you the love she has for Gabe and Corbin is surpassed only by her desire to make their world a better place. Those who know her will tell you of a never-ending smile. And of someone who has made a lifetime of giving care and support to her family friends and community. Chelsea embodies the motto of our state --- “To be, rather than to seem”.
Now we are trying to give something back to Chelsea.
She needs a reliable car and a place she, Gabe and Corbin can call home.
After the destruction of Hurricane Dorian put a stop to nearly every operation in Ocracoke, practically shuttering island operations until spring, a reliable income is likely not a possibility for the near future.
When FEMA denied the people of Ocracoke individual assistance, Chelsea’s options dwindled.
Not the type to ask for help, a handful of Ocracoke citizens felt the need to ask on her behalf.
We’re asking that you make a donation, no matter how small or how large, to put Chelsea, Gabe and Corbin back on their feet.
Albert Schweitzer said it best --- “There comes a time in all of our lives when our inner fire goes out. That light is then burst into flame again by an encounter with another human being --- we should be thankful for those people in our lives whop rekindle our inner spirit.”
