Help For Buz & Kathy Starrett Due to a House Fire & Medical!

My name is Carole Derry-Bretsch,

I am honored to start this very important GoFundMe for Buz and Kathy Starrett.

I have known Kathy since the 1960's when we both lived in Glendale, and both attended Glendale Academy.

I first met Buz in the 1970's when Heritage II was doing a program at Andrews University. Then, they came to my parent's home in South Bend.

I know that anyone that has heard the Heritage II, Harvest Celebration, and New

Creation groups, have been so blessed by the intricate harmonies, and beautiful

vocals of these groups. Buz is truly a master at making incredible music happen.

I was so happy when we moved to Yucaipa, and learned that Buz was a pastor

at the Calimesa Church.

Years ago, they moved to Texas. And, are so blessed to be by their girls, and their grandchildren.

On January 9, in the early afternoon, a fire started under the fireplace in their home.

The fire started under the fireplace because the embers got into a gap by the gas line that they had capped off.

Because of the fire, the house is uninhabitable.

While the house is being repaired from the fire, there will be extra costs for hotel stays, and having to eat out.

The repair company has given them the estimate for repair of $80,000.

They said it would be about 90 days, because it is in the winter.

Besides the fire, they are facing health costs and challenges

Both Buz and Kathy have dementia.

Kathy's dementia has exacerbated to the point where she needs to be in a nursing home, so that she can get 24/7 care. But, their insurance will not cover it.

Kathy is also struggling with the residual of the brain shearing, along with cancer.

In 2004, Kathy received a brain shearing as a result of a horse accident, She was receiving the last ribbon of the day when the wind picked up. The ribbon blew and spooked the horse. Kathy was thrown, and received a brain shearing as a result of the fall.

She truly needs continual care for all of her health issues.

And, obviously Buz can not care for her, as he is struggling with his own worsening health issues.

And pretty soon, Buz will need continual care too, as his dementia progresses.

With the expense of having the home repaired, and both of their medical needs,

We are asking for the $100,000 goal.
