Help For Braxton The Brave
Lately, Braxton had been displaying some strange symptoms. He had been complaining of abdominal and leg pain, had a lack of appetite, was extremely tired while sleeping much more than usual, decreased activity, etc. Heather brought him to the pediatrician and he was diagnosed with an ear infection. They said if the other strange symptoms continued, to bring him back in.
On Tuesday, 10/9/18, Heather and Pedro brought him back to the pediatrician. Their biggest concern was lots of abdominal distention at this point. The pediatrician felt a lump by his liver during his routine exam and sent them to Children’s Health in Plano to get it checked out. After much testing, the doctors let them know that Braxton had a large, cancerous mass consuming most of the right side of his body, which they believed to be Hepatoblastoma (liver cancer). They immediately made arrangements for them to transfer to Dallas, where their oncology department is mainly located.
After more testing in Dallas, they determined that Braxton had Neuroblastoma (Thursday, 10/11/18), which is a type of neural cancer. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy to try and shrink the tumor before getting a biopsy, as the tumor is pushing on some of his major vital organs. The hope is that this first round of chemotherapy will shrink the tumor, alleviate the fluid in his lungs, chest cavity, and belly, and allow doctors to safely place him under anesthesia to biopsy.
Braxton and family have a long road ahead of them, with roughly 6 months of chemotherapy, followed by 12 months of radiation and immunotherapy. They appreciate the overwhelming support they've have received so far, and you can stay updated on Braxton’s progress through the Facebook page linked below ❤️
