Help for Baby Victoria

Dear friends and family,

On May 30th, our sweet daughter Victoria was born - a 24 week preemie who survived an emergency c-section. From the time she was born the doctors have labeled her the most critical baby in the NICU, and she has undergone 4 surgeries in under two weeks to give her the best chance of survival (with 1-2 more surgeries in the next few days). She's getting so much stronger each day, and we can't wait until the day we can take her home.

If you are able to, we would be incredibly thankful for any help you are able to give to get our little family through this tough time - no amount is too small. Here's how your donations help:

  • $18-$36 helps with parking fees at the hospital to see her each day
  • $200 helps sponsor a day at a hotel or airbnb to keep us close to the hospital (we live about an hour away)
  • $500+ helps us prepare for the upcoming medical bills for her multiple surgeries, medicines, blood tranfusions, and 24/7 care in the NICU - for reference, we will be paying $2,271 for just the c-section delivery alone

VICTORIA'S JOURNEY

Victoria was born from an emergency c-section at 4am on 5/30/23, and has been such a fighter ever since. During the first week of life the doctors discovered that she had a Stage 4 brain bleed on the right side of her brain (the most severe form of brain bleeds). Her lungs weren't developed enough to breathe on her own, so the doctors switched her breathing machine from a ventilator to a heavy duty oscillator that breathes for her. At the end of the first week, she developed a serious infection in her stomach that the doctors hoped would go away on its own.

In the second week her stomach infection spread to her intestines, and the doctors performed an emergency surgery that involved surgically adding a drain in her stomach to hopefully drain any infection and release pressure in her stomach. The drain helped a bit, but her infection quickly became more serious. Once Victoria was stable enough, the surgeons performed a more invasive surgery to remove necrotic pieces of tissue in her intestines. Since then, she's received two more surgeries to try to save the healthy parts of her intestines and colon. Her last surgery was yesterday (6/15), and the doctors said she tolerated it much better than the last and needing much less help to recover.

We will keep this page updated with more on her journey. Thank you so much to everyone for helping and sending prayers her way.

PS: Her favorite thing currently is blowing bubbles from her mouth and daily story time with us.

Love,
Terrell & Anel
