Our mom's life has never been easy, but recent events have turned it into our worst nightmare. Ana is a 49 year old mom with a decent job in research, who has a very loving and caring family. With the help of our dad, she was able to raise and support us in our goals of completing undergraduate and graduate studies in a different province.
Sixteen years ago she was diagnosed with an autoimmune, chronic liver disease characterized by a progressive inflammation and scarring of the liver. She has never consumed alcohol or drugs and has never smoked, all of which somehow allowed her to survive her liver disease far longer than the average statistics. However, inflammation itself caused severe damage and scarring in the liver and in the last two months her condition rapidly worsened, requiring a liver transplant. She has spent numerous days in the hospital and was recently placed on the active transplant list. She is currently unable to work due to severe water accumulation and swelling in her abdomen, and it will take several months to receive the transplant and to recover.
Our dad is now taking care of our mom full time, which leaves both of them unable to work. My mom is already unable to function normally or perform daily tasks, and will need 24/7 care after the surgery for a prolonged period of time. Our dad is a great support at the moment, and will continue to take care of her as long as that is necessary.
Any help that we can get from the people with big hearts will be highly appreciated and will relieve the stress of financial burden that we are currently faced with.
