Help For Amaris' Recovery

Donation protected
My name is Joanna, and I am trying to raise money for my friend Amaris, who has been having difficulty supporting herself since she got hurt in a bike accident and can no longer go out to work during her recovery.

Amaris is a Production Assistant (PA) in the film industry in New York and she has been lucky enough to work on TV shows such as The Equalizer, Netflix’s Collin in Black & White, Power Book 2: Ghost, and a few others. She has been working in the entertainment industry for about 4-5 years. On the side, she would deliver food on her bike for UberEats and DoorDash. She also started filming and editing various music videos, small promo projects for small businesses, and live events. Since her accident, she has been trying to keep her head above water.

Here’s Amaris’ story from her words;

“On September 27th, 2021, I was biking home from taking a COVID Test to work on the Equalizer that week, when I hit a defect in the bike lane and flipped over my bike, hitting the ground headfirst. I opened my eyes to realize that I was at eye level with the pavement and inches away from the rolling tires of passing cars. I was in shock and unable to move to get up, especially how my right leg tangled in the frame of my bike. A while after some good Samaritans helped me up, I went to the hospital, took an X-ray and CT Scan, and was diagnosed with a fractured bone in my right knee and was told that I may have possibly torn my ACL.

Sent home with a brace and crutches, I realized that I wouldn't be able to work for a while. The pain made it nearly impossible to do anything normal; sleeping, showering, food prep, or even going down the steps to make it to follow-up doctor appointments. In addition, I am without health insurance, so I have a lovely bill from the hospital added to my pile of debts. One of my friends put me in touch with alawyer, but my case will take about two to three years to be solved.

Thankfully, I have family and friends that do their best to help me with food shopping, laundry, cooking, and cleaning and I have also done my best to stretch what I had saved before my accident, but it is running low. Expenses are beginning to pile up and I am now behind on rent. In addition, after getting an MRI, I learned that my ACL was torn, making surgery necessary, putting me out of work for at least three more months. "

Any contributions to help Amaris will be genuinely appreciated. Again, thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and I wish that your kindness will return to you tenfold.
