Assistance for our sister, daughter & friend Aisha:
- Purchase of an adapted van that can be used to transport her with the use of her wheelchair;
- Physiotherapy, speech therapy, massage therapy, spiritual healing, etc.;
- A small smart TV for use in her nursing home room;
- Adapted clothing for people who are bedridden and wheelchair users; and
- Caregivers to provide some respite for the family a few hours per week.
Our daughter Aisha, age 26, was diagnosed with moyamoya disease in February 2020 as an unfortunate side effect of chemo treatments she had to undertake due to a Multi Germ cell tumor in her left ovary that spread cancer to her lungs and liver.
Since her diagnosis, she has suffered many mini and massive strokes. She had two brain surgeries, the last one being on October 9, 2020. After that surgery, she was in a coma for five weeks. When she awoke, she could no longer speak, make purposeful movement of her limbs—she was completely bedridden.
Aisha was discharged from the Montreal neurological institute on November 1, 2021, after
13 months. She was cared for at home in a hospital bed with 24 hour care from family, friends, the CLSC and private caregivers. We did our best to keep her at home, but the mental, emotional and physical strain was too much to bear alone. Sadly, Aisha was transferred to Maimonides nursing home on December 9, 2021.
Unfortunately, Aisha does not qualify for intensive rehabilitation, since she is not able to follow commands consistently. As a result, we have had to pay for private therapy to help her with stimulation, so that she can receive adequate stimulation. Her grandmother has been spending days and nights at her side to keep her comforted.
We are reaching out to our community for help. We have done all that we can on our own. We are all mentally, emotionally and physically depleted. Your time, financial donations, expertise and prayers are welcome and appreciated.
Thank you for your consideration.
