Agatha’s jealous ex shot her in the head. She needs help

Please help a young mother who was shot in the head

Agatha, age 26, is the mother of two children, Laura, 5, and Luiz Henrique, 3. She lives with her children, her parents and older brother in a crime-ridden part of Rio de Janeiro and works as an eyebrow stylist. She is a devoted mom to her young children and is dedicated to providing loving support for Luiz Henrique’s autism.

On April 7, her jealous ex-husband stalked her outside her home and fired three gunshots at her. Two shots hit her in the head. Her brother Kleber flagged down a passing car to rush her to the emergency room.

She is now hospitalized in serious condition at a public hospital which is not equipped to handle her delicate situation. There were delays in getting her brain surgery and she is in a coma and on a feeding tube, missing part of her skull because of brain swelling. She aspirated blood and may have infections or pneumonia. However, she is showing signs of being able to wake up and make a recovery.

We want to raise funds to transfer her to a better hospital, get ongoing medical care and help her family afford a safer place to live.

She will need a nurse, physiotherapist, speech therapist, medications and healthy foods.

Agatha and her family – seven people in all – live in a three-room house in an unsafe neighborhood. Several other relatives, grandparents, cousins and brothers, have died from gun violence in recent years. Meanwhile, Agatha’s ex-husband is still at large and knows where the family lives.

Moving to a safer neighborhood would help the whole family recover from their ongoing trauma from violence, as well as help Agatha and her children to recover from this senseless act of cruelty.
