Help For Abigail Reardon

On August 22nd, 3-year-old Abigail was involved in a horrible accident. She was backed over by a ride-on lawn mower, causing extensive damage to her left foot and leg. Abby spent 16 days at Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence and had 5 surgeries since the accident - more surgeries are very likely to come.  Abby lost her left foot and leg up to the middle of her calf, endured plastic reconstructive surgery, has significant soft tissue injuries to recover from, and is fighting bacterial and fungal infections from her wounds.  She's on 5 different medications until at least the end of September.  She will need many prosthetic leg fittings over the course of the next 15+ years, or until she's done growing. As the bones in her amputated leg grow, it's likely the skin won't stretch fast enough to keep up, so she's expected to go through many procedures to "shorten the bone" as she grows.  When she is done growing, she'll continue to need a new prosthetic every 5 years or so - the prostheses wear out or need adjusting frequently. Abigail has a very long journey ahead of further orthopedic (bone) surgeries, potentially more plastic surgeries, LOTS of physical therapy, occupational therapy, and counseling.  Abby has an older sister, Alexa that unfortunately witnessed the accident.  The girls are very close and Alexa will begin counseling soon to help her understand this traumatic situation that happened to her sister AND her.  Right now, it is overwhelming to process everything coming at this little girl and her family.  Sarah has taken time off work to care for Abby and attend her many appointments over the next few months.  The goal is to get her resuming as close to normal a life as possible, as quickly as possible.  So many people have offered help and we thought this would be a good way to keep everyone updated on Abigail's progress and contribute to what will be a long road of recovery. Unstoppable Abby is so brave and incredibly strong, with an amazing spirit that will help her and her family navigate this journey.  Abby won over every single person on her care team at the hospital.  When her pain is managed, she radiates with smiles, silliness and sass.  This little girl is lighting the way through her new path in life, and she will be able to do anything she sets her mind to.  Sarah will be posting updates on this page as she can. Sarah did not want to ask for help, but because so many people have reached out, I felt it was important to give people the option to contribute to this little girl's future.  Out of pocket medical expenses will exceed at least $90,000 over the course of Abigail's treatment, and Sarah has set up a separate account to manage the funds and ensure they are 100% dedicated to Abigail's medical needs. Thank you for sharing and contributing. Please send positive thoughts to Sarah, Abigail and Alexa.  The love and support of everyone is SO very much appreciated and our collective strength will help them all get through this.  Keep shining bright Miss Abigail - you got this!!  <350719800_159840613677458_r.jpeg50719800_1598406164303634_r.jpeg
