Help for a horsewoman in need.
Donation protected
My friend Susan Seeback is a wonderfully kind woman who unfortunately is a senior, wheelchair bound, and without transportation. She is on a fixed income and rents a room on a horse farm so she can stay close to the animals whom she has dedicated her life to.
Her rescued dog Butter is her dearest friend and companion, she has injured her leg and requires ACL surgery for her to be able to walk, at only 6-7 years Butter has many good years left if she is able to have her knee repaired. After losing her service dog, Susan adopted Butter who had had an embedded collar and was dumped after producing a litter of puppies. She has been Susan’s constant companion ever since. She helps Susan with mobility, though she is not an official service dog.
The cost of this surgery is often $4000 but I have found a nonprofit hospital that will do the surgery for significantly less at $1400 plus follow up visits, medication, and transport.
I am happy to provide transport for Butter from NC to VA and back, and have secured a friend who will help with rehab as Susan is unable to assist Butter in the early stages of her recover which can take up to 16 weeks. Susan has had bloodwork and X-rays done and surgery is the only option for Butter moving forward. After over $400 in vet bills, Susan is unable to pay for the care that Butter so desperately needs. Additionally because of her severe pain she is at risk for injuring her good leg from overuse, swift surgery is the only chance Butter has to be healthy and able to live a long pain free life.
I am asking for those who are able to please donate what you can. We all know what it is like to feel helpless and alone, I cannot imagine the thought of having to euthanize for something that is fixable with the right support and help, which is what Susan is facing. In a world where it is so easy to be disconnected, our pets, especially if we are single and disabled, are often what keeps us motivated and involved in the world. Horse people are a breed of their own and I hope that everyone is able to offer a little support to someone who has helped many.
