Not something I'm comfortable doing.....asking/begging for money! However, I am at a loss as how else to help a friend and his animals who I've known for about the past two years. He's contacted every government agency he can think of to find housing and has been told there is a long wait....sometimes up to 7 years. Someone at one of the agencies did ask him if he had asked Jesus for help, but that didn't pan out for him either.
He's rented the same rural house for 20 years... it's now a 150 year old shack, literally collapsing around him, which ought to have been condemned years ago but he calls it home. He says he's lucky to have it because it's better than being homeless. Well, that's no longer the case. He and his 2 tiny dogs and cat are being evicted on May 15th and he's found nowhere to go other than living in his van. It shouldn't even be allowed on the road, but again, I guess it's better than nothing. Yes, his situation has reached crisis proportions-- he's crippled, with severe COPD, in almost constant pain, and can barely walk with 2 canes. He and and his animals on the streets, living in a van, will be a complete disaster. He WILL NOT give up his fur family! They're his only reason to continue living at this point. It terrifies me so: I can only imagine how he feels. A bit more about my friend- he's an absolutely fascinating and brilliant fellow, can recite the Latin name of EVERY plant growing in the woods and fields, is acutely politically aware, and can speak at length on almost any subject. He's kind and honest, drug and alcohol free. Just a bit eccentric, which may explain his descent into the dire situation he's now facing.
The only thing I know to do now is try to raise a few dollars for him to supplement the tiny amount he gets from Social Security and SNAP both of which have been severely reduced recently. It's absolutely not enough to live on, honestly. We will continue helping him to find at least some sort of temporary housing, but clearly, he'll need money to secure that. Some friends have helped me in the past and that, of course, has been and still is greatly appreciated.
He and his animals will probably be tossed out on May15th and that anything he owns that may be important to him will be tossed out as well. It's just a really sad, pathetic situation.
If there's any way you can help, in even the smallest way, this fellow and his beloved fur family would be eternally grateful.
