A lot of people in California are hurting right now because of the latest wildfires and could use your help. Among them is Chico Cal Fire Captain Brian Alderman, whose family just lost their home in the Butte County Camp Fire.

I grew up playing on rec and school soccer teams with Brian for years when we were kids and teenagers. Brian always played center fullback, the heart of the defense. As such, it seemed especially appropriate when I found out years later that he'd chosen a career as a firefighter. After his years of helping protect Californians from the dangers of fire, I'm hoping we can provide a little defense for Brian's family now by helping them out with the considerable expenses they'll face as they find a new place to live, gather basic necessities, recover from the fire, and transition to what comes after.
