Help Mr V start his chicken farm in Cambodia

Mr V... (Vireak Soung) our old friend who has taken so many of us on awesome journeys through Cambodia.. shown us the history and the temples and the wonderful people - and shared many an evening of tall tales and fun times .. is in trouble.

There were four main industries in Cambodia..  - Tourism, Garment Making, Construction and Agriculture.

Now it looks like this:

❌ Tourism ❌

❌Garment Making❌

❌Construction❌

✅Agriculture ✅

Tourism is simply non existent.  Mr V has had no work for over a year.   The streets are empty, the home-stays and hotels desolate.

People are hungry.  The only work left is to create food for the the Khmer people and those who are left behind.

Mr V has been struggling hard to keep himself and his parents alive.  Sadly he lost his father some months ago when his diabetes and health simply could not stay strong enough through the hardships they were facing.

Fortunately for V he has had some help from his old friends and only through this has he managed to survive these difficult times.  But you will see from his latest pics.. he too has lost lots of weight.  Hunger is very real in Cambodia.

We all know he is a survivor.. he was trained very young to survive - with an AK 47 on his shoulder when he was just 12 years old - front line fodder for the Khmer Rouge- but now his survival skills are being tested again.

This is his plan and we want to help him realise this dream - and help also to feed more people in need.

A CHICKEN FARM:

Food.. eggs and chicken - is always in demand.

V's Mother has a little land in Kantrok village on the outskirts of Siem Reap.  Here V plans to build a chicken farm - but of course he needs funds.

This is the land:

He has sent us a plan with estimated costs to build the house for chickens, purchase the needed incubators and 500 chicks to begin his farm.

You might ask what experience does Mr V have in this work?  After all he was a great tour operator.. and brilliant story teller - and could entertain his guests in all manner of ways..  well he is also an entrepreneur.. he has trained with the best - Mike Handcock, Landi Jac and Dave Rogers!  and he has also trained in the local Agricultural school for just this business.
He has friends who are doing the same work who can share their experience with him - he is capable of this endeavour.

Gofundme does not have affiliated accounts in Cambodia yet - so we need to raise the funds here in Australia.. they will be withdrawn to Water Harvest Foundation bank account and I will forward them to Mr V in Siem Reap.  All funds raised apart from the transfer fees and any fees levied by the fundraising platform will be sent to him.

He needs approx USD 4000 to build the chicken house, then the rest of the money raised will go to equipment and baby chicks to start the farm.

I know many of you have a very warm place in your heart for Mr V.  Remember his saying.. 'brother (or sister) from another mother".  He was brother to so many of us.   His big smile lit up the day - his stories took us to the magical realms of the mysteries of Ankor Wat and other incredible places.

Remember champagne at sunset at Ankor Wat?  Remember the fun we had at Rabbit Island.. the delicious seafood feasts he prepared for us?

Let's help V out now as he struggles to get things together for himself, his mum and his friends around him.  We who know V - know him to be a very generous soul - we have all experienced that in his company - so this project is not only for V - his whole community around him will benefit from this dream to be realised.

This is an easy target my dear friends - lets get it together fast - please put your hand in your pocket today for our brother from another mother... Vireak Soung - tour operator extraordinaire - turned chicken farmer..  Never try - Never Know.
