Help following fall at work

My name is Stuart Green and I’m a UK based assistant location manager, I work within scripted production in HETV and film and like many in the industry from all over the world, I have felt the impact of the downturn in the industry I’ve worked in for the last decade.

Work has been sparse but I’ve been lucky enough to just about manage to stay afloat over the last few years.

This year had all the makings of a good year, or so i thought. In April I was offered the role to be the ALM on my first ever Bollywood project, and my first job since November 2024, I jumped at the chance.

A month later I was lying in a hospital bed in Glasgow with a broken humerus.

I had heard the stories about Bollywood shows, so when I started I had a mixture of apprehension and excitement, what if they didn't pay me? what if it was as unsafe as people claimed? In this instance the production were great with payment, but safety seemed to be an afterthought, if thought about at all.

We were understaffed as a department, there was a crew of about 300, yet the location team was a team of 4 in total, which we were constantly told was too many, long hours, constantly having to break turnaround and in the lead up to my injury I had worked the previous 18 days without a day off due to the ever changing shoot schedule.

on the 9th of may 2025, now day 19 without a break, I arrived at the location that had been secured the day before, there had been no recces, no risk assessments or safety discussion on the location prior to arrival nor on the day, our load in point was a rear service yard shared by businesses with deliveries scheduled to be coming in and out all day, we quickly formed a stop and drop plan for our unit vans to ensure that the service area would be clear for deliveries and the like, a plan which the van drivers on arrival totally ignored, blocking the loading area completely, nothing new on this job, but, the location owner was front and centre and less than happy, then, as expected, a delivery truck turned up, the drivers seem to not notice this, and myself and my unit manager begin to start moving vans into a small dead end area next to a low wall (about a foot in height), during this process I stepped onto this wall to assess the space we had and if the vans could get closer, I slipped, fell arm first and landed on the wing mirror with the full force of my body, breaking my upper right arm (my dominant arm at that) all of the way through. An ambulance was called which would take 40 minutes, so I was driven to Glasgow Queen Elizabeth Hospital and dropped off there by one of the drivers.

After a 6 day stay my arm was operated on, pins and plates have been used to fix my arm, the producers visited me in hospital, telling me that they wanted to make sure I didn't struggle and would look after me, they stated they would pay out the rest of my contract, which would see me through, but they never put this in writing, this was a month and a half ago now, they haven't and have now moved back to India.

A couple of days ago I attended my first physiotherapy session, I have been told that I have no chances of working for at least the next 2-3 months, due to the nature of the break and convalescence ahead of me, I am not allowed to lift anything above half a kilo in weight and I currently have limited mobility, but I do have a nice big scar to show for my efforts.

This accident was on the 9th of May this year, any money that I had made on the job to that point has long been absorbed I’m reaching out to peers in my industry in the hopes that you may be able to help even a little. I have found myself having to set up a go fund me page in the hopes of keeping afloat financially over the coming months, I have already fallen in to debt.

I have put in a claim to the production insurance company, however this is not a quick process and the insurers have told the production to deny liability, the production have gone quiet and I'm struggling to

Thank you

Stuart

any funds will be used to support myself financially during the recovery
