Hello,
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read this. This Go Fund Me page goes out to a big guy named Fly. Fly is a retired Grand Prix horse, weighing in around 1800 pounds!! I muck the stalls at the barn in Grafton where Fly is boarded, and I love being a part of that big barn family. There is never a dull moment there, ever, but today of all days was one of the most challenging yet. Since I started working there, Fly seemed to be the topic of most stories, because he's big, sweet and CLUMSY. He seems to find a way to injure himself without fail on a regular basis. We think he forgets how big he really is! Every morning we walk him out to his paddock after his morning feed and he always goes at his own pace, he stops at the top of the hill and takes eveything in around him, and it reminds me to do the same. I love that about him. Eventually we make our way down to his paddock where he lays down and rolls all around in the dirt and then he gets back up, checks in on all his girlfriends before doing a few laps around to show us all that he's the big stallion in town! Today when it was time for Fly to come in for the evening we brought him back up to his stall, but Fly had other plans in mind for today. Fly got overly excited and he ended up putting his foot through his stall wall and right through the exterior of the barn . The siding and the wood sliced deep into his ankle, he was stuck helplessly with his leg through the wall, literally pouring blood as we tried to free him. We all must have been in the right place at the right time today for him. Fate had it that we had a gentleman on his way over to help with the tractor and within minutes of this happening he showed up . He was able to make a tourniquet from his shirt and quickly cut the siding and wood out from around the wound on Fly to set his leg free while another woman was quickly putting a vet wrap around where he was losing a concerning amount of blood. Fly was finally able to get his leg back out of the hole. We all worked as a team to load him into a horse trailer and rush him to the vet. Fly underwent surgery tonight. They discovered lots of wood and dirt in his wound, they flushed out his joint, but discovered that his collateral ligament is cut. He is in a half cast to support the joint when he is able to stand up again. If he will tolerate it they will leave it on post op and see where this takes him. We are thankful for every single person who worked as a team to help. Fly is an amazing horse, his owner Cailin, has invested her entire self, emotionally and financially, into keeping him as happy and as healthy as she can . Lately fly can't seem to keep himself out of trouble, but today sure was a nightmare. I left out alot of painful details because it was literally heartbreaking to see that happen to him . What I'd love more than anything, is to help Fly and his loving owner, in getting him on the fast track to recovery!!! Our family at the barn can't wait to spoil him with all the love in the world when he comes back to us. We will miss his leisurely walks out to the paddocks in the morning, and know all his girlfriends will be looking for him until he returns to us. Thank you so much for your time, and thank you for helping Fly heal!! If there is any money left, it will be donated directly to a nonprofit equine charity to help the next horse in need. We love you big guy!!!!! LETS FLY!!!!
