Florencia, a devoted healer, auntie to the children, and single mother in our community, has spent years dedicating herself to helping others find wellness, balance, and relief. Now, she needs our help.

In late September, a black widow spider bite and the severe infection that followed turned her life upside down — leaving her hospitalized, in ongoing pain, and unable to work. Without medical insurance or paid leave, Florencia is facing overwhelming medical bills and daily financial hardship as she continues to recover.

On September 24, Florencia noticed what appeared to be a simple insect bite on her upper left arm. Within hours, it became swollen, hot, and intensely painful. That night, she developed a high fever, chills, dizziness, and even hallucinations. By morning, she was so weak she could barely move or speak and nearly collapsed when she tried to stand.

She was taken to urgent care and prescribed steroids and antibiotics, but her symptoms quickly worsened. By September 26, she was admitted to the hospital, where doctors discovered a black widow bite that had caused a severe bacterial infection — one that could have been fatal if left untreated. Florencia spent days undergoing testing and receiving intensive treatment, including multiple rounds of powerful antibiotics to fight the infection and prevent it from spreading further.

Even after being discharged, her recovery has been long and difficult. She has endured four courses of strong antibiotics, extreme nausea, dizziness, exhaustion, and lingering “brain fog.” Weeks later, she still struggles with fatigue and limited strength, making it impossible to return to her healing work.

As a single mother to a teenage daughter, Florencia has been trying to stay positive and resilient — but the medical bills, lost income, and lack of insurance have created an enormous financial strain. At a time when accessing affordable insurance and medical care is harder than ever, it’s especially vulnerable to face this kind of crisis alone.

Yet Florencia is not alone — she has our community, a circle of people whose lives she has touched through her healing work, her compassion, and her quiet strength. Together, we can help her carry this burden and give back some of the care she has so freely shared with others.
