Hi, I’m Josh, and I’m trying to save my wife’s life.
My wife, Florence, has a rare liver disease called PSC (Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis). Last year she was also diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma - a rare and aggressive form of liver cancer.
Over the past year our lives have changed completely. Flo has endured long hospital stays, chemotherapy, immunotherapy and multiple invasive procedures, all whilst showing incredible strength at every stage of this devastating journey.
A liver transplant is now Flo’s only potentially curative treatment option.
But because of current NHS transplant criteria, she is not eligible for a transplant in the UK.
So we are now having to seek treatment abroad in the hope of saving her life.
The good news is that I may be a suitable living donor for Flo. We will soon be travelling to Istanbul for urgent compatibility testing to see whether I can donate part of my liver to Flo in a living donor transplant.
But the reality is - we now have to fund this ourselves.
The costs include:
• Transplant surgery
• Donor surgery
• Hospital care
• Travel abroad
• Accommodation
• Post-operative treatment and recovery
Without a transplant, the only option left here in the UK will be palliative treatment.
With a transplant, she could gain everything. More life, more adventures and more time with those who love her. A future.
Before her diagnosis, you'd usually find Flo playing netball, climbing mountains, wild swimming or enjoying a cup of tea at home with her family and our dog, Spencer.
Even now, Flo is still the first person to show up for her friends, often protecting them from the reality of what she's going through herself. She has turned every chemo session into a 'Treatment Party' complete with themes and party hats for each infusion.
Flo works as a fundraising manager and has dedicated her career to helping others and raising money for important causes. I pray the kindness she’s put out into the world is returned to her.
If you’re able to donate, thank you. And if you can’t, sharing our story means just as much. Every share gives us a better chance of reaching more people who might help save Flo’s life.
For those who know our Flo, we have no doubt she’ll get through this with positivity and party hats.
Thank you for reading our story, for your kindness, and for standing beside us during the hardest time our family has ever faced.
We will continue to share updates here and you can also follow Flo's journey on Instagram @florencemoffatcharles
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you,
Josh, Flo & our families xxx
