Hello, I’m Md Riyad Hossain, originally from Noakhali, Bangladesh, and currently living in MN, USA.
The districts of Noakhali, Feni, and Cumilla in Bangladesh are currently facing catastrophic flooding, the worst in recent history. The Muhuri River has overflowed, submerging entire villages, roads, and homes.
In Cumilla, heavy rainfall and the opening of the sluice gate at Dumber Lake in Tripura, India, have caused significant water level increases in the Gumti and Muhuri rivers. Feni and Noakhali are experiencing a similar situation, with millions of people stranded without access to food, clean water, or medical care due to rising floodwaters and tidal surges. Lives are at stake. The situation is expected to worsen as more rain is forecast for the coming days.
There is a severe scarcity of food, medical assistance, drinking water, and emergency rescue equipment. I am working with local volunteers to ensure that aid reaches those in dire need. The funds will be used to purchase essential groceries such as rice, lentils, cooking oil, bottled water, dry food like cookies, saline, and emergency medicines for people who have been displaced and are currently sheltering in temporary areas like primary and high schools without access to fresh water or food. Together, we can help alleviate the suffering of our fellow human beings during this devastating crisis.
