Hey There, My name is Christine and I am trying to help my Best Friend's family raise some fund for their Baby girl's Surgery and recovery. My Best friend Ashley Watkins and Her husband David were blessed with Twin Girls in April of 2020. Their names are Mila and Isla Watkins. They have had their share of medical speed bumps through their first year of life and well it looks like Mila has a big speed bump to overcome. I will share what Ashley shared for me to tell y'all regrading Mila.
From Ashley:
"Unfortunately we are asking for help as we are drowning in medical bills. Both David and I work and I have missed many days of work and now having to take FMLA without pay for possibly 12 weeks is not making things easy to handle. We still have surgery bills from the first surgery that the girls had to have at 3 months old. They were both diagnosed with inguinal hernias. Mila's was found overnight and had to have immediate surgery and Isla had to have her surgery 3 weeks later.
Around 13-14 Months sweet Mila was starting to walk and we were so excited, we noticed that she had a bit of a crooked limp but just thought she was wobbly. Within the next month it started to look like she was walking with one shoe on. Well we laid her down to change her while she was fighting and being fussy we noticed that her right leg seems longer than the other. Our doctor informed us that the difference was 2 to 3 cm in length. After an XRAY and MRI the Pediatric Ortho confirmed that it wasn't leg length deficiency but Right Developmentally Hip Dysplasia. Her Sister Isla also had Hip Dysplasia and was in a harness for 6 months.
Conclusion:
Because of her age the harness will not work with her so the Surgeon will have to do a closed reduction and put the leg back in the socket and cast her for 3 months, Which means being Immobile for 3 months. This will be the 1st of hopefully 3 procedures. If the Reduction does not work he has to go back in and completely scrap tissue and tendons away and make her a lip on her pelvic bone to grab onto her ball joint in her hip to stay in place. But at 6 weeks she has to go back under for removal of the cast for a new one. She will also require a special car seat as the cast will be heavy and wide and she will not sit safely or correctly in her car seat. She will also have 4-5 months of physical therapy to learn to walk and regain muscle.
We are asking for prayers and if lead to donate we will be ever so grateful as I will be out of work for 3 months with NO PAY and we are still paying for the previous surgeries as well. Please pray for us and our family during this time. Also for the strength that Mila gets through this and is as resilient as kids can be and that she is able to handle being in her cast and for comfort."
I am really wanting to help this family, these girls are beyond a blessing to her and her husband and family but to me as well. These Girls feel like my own children and I will do anything to see them thrive and Blossom!
