Hi everyone - so I’m going way out of my comfort zone with this, but need to reach out for help. My little Josie girl has been with me for the last 12+ years and is literally, my best friend.
Josie was seen at her primary vet for an annual wellness exam on Friday, 5/14 where she was sent home in good health and vitals. A few days after that vet visit, Josie came down with a bad cough that was diagnosed as kennel cough and put on antibiotics and a cough to suppressant. After being on the medicine for less than 24 hours, she sat up from a nap but then had collapsed, screamed, eyes rolled into the back of her head, and had what looked like a seizure. She completely stopped breathing and her gums and tongue turned blue/white. I did a few chest compressions and was able to get her coughing again where I then runs hed her to an emergency vet where she was hospitalized for the night and stayed in an ICU oxygen bed. The doctor diagnosed her with congestive heart failure. After about 24 hours and a $4,000 vet bill, Josie was able to come home with 2 medications - Furosemide and Pimobendan that have been given to her religiously the past week, morning and night.
I had a small opening in the middle of my work day today, where I decided to stop home to check on my pups and let them outside. Josie sat up on her bed, looked at me, and began to cough again. I then picked her up where she completely lost consciousness in my arms, stopped breathing completely, and gums/tongue turned white. I immediately began doing chest compressions again after about 5 or 6 she started to gain a little bit of consciousness but was certainly out of it. For those 10 seconds or so, I thought I lost her completely this time. I rushed her back to Blue Pearl emergency animal hospital, where she is being hospitalized again. Having a relapse within a week is what has the vets concerned about a possible misdiagnosis and need to re-do all tests, chest X-rays, and have her see a cardiologist to have an echo done.
With all of that being said, I’m now over about $10,000 in vet bills and will most likely increase depending on the length and severity of her treatment and stay.
I am doing something I absolutely have never done in my life, and asking for any help financially I can get right now to keep my sweet girl with me for a few more years. I’m also a big believer in the power of prayer - please send positive and healing prayers our way.
I cannot express my gratitude enough in advance - thank you, sincerely, from the bottom fo my hear. ❤️
Love always,
Shelby & Josie Bean
