In the early morning hours, on June 1, 2022, my cat, Ducky had an accident, and caught his leg in a chair. After he fell, he was crying in pain, and it hit me hard. I spent the day in a panic, trying to keep up with work, while running all over town, to get him to the vet. I had no money, as I had spent everything I had to go see my son Andrew, before he shipped off to Poland with the Army, just a month earlier.
I applied for credit to pay for the veterinarian, but I was only able to get approved for $500. I was able to cover the exam and some pain meds, but due to the type of injury, I need to come up with right around $2200 to have an orthopedic surgeon repair his leg.
At the moment, we have Ducky confined to a crate in our living room. We have been caring for him around the clock, keeping him as comfortable as possible.
I adopted Ducky, and his sister, Cloud, earlier this year. They were found on my ex’s property, back in November, and my daughter Emily cared for the kittens until they were ready to move in with me. Since then, they have been an important part of my life. Everyday after work, I get home and rush to see my kitties. We play everyday, and they cuddle up with me in bed at night.
Ducky loves to wake me up in the morning, before my alarm goes off. Even though it’s usually earlier than I’d personally choose to get up, his friendly demeanor and playful personality are always welcome, even when I’m tired.
Ducky spends his days with Cloud, and the two of them are inseparable. After he got hurt, I’ve had to separate them, to keep him safe, but I let Cloud out to visit him, even though he’s spending the daytime in his crate.
Ducky has brought so much happiness and joy to my life, and I want to do the best I can for him, so that we can spend many long years together. He’s not even a year old yet, so with proper treatment, he should be able make a full recovery to lead a happy and healthy life.
