Help Niharika Win Her Battle Against Rare Cancer

Donation protected
As the holiday season approaches, a time of joy and togetherness, we are reminded of the precious gift of health. For one young girl, however, the festivities hold a different meaning, a battle against a rare form of cancer that has taken her far from home.

Meet Niharika G. Maneesh, a five-year-old Malayalee girl whose laughter and infectious smile should be lighting up her family's home during this festive season. Instead, she is bravely facing a life-altering diagnosis, a rare form of pediatric cancer called high-risk neuroblastoma that has forced her physicians to recommend specialized treatment for her, including chemotherapy, surgery, transplant, and immunotherapy at:
  • Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital in Hershey, PA, USA, where she is part of a clinical trial for five difluoromethylornithine (DFMO) treatments across 18 months
  • Tata Memorial Centre in Mumbai, India, where she receives care in between her DFMO treatments for three years

This holiday season, we have the opportunity to make a profound difference in Niharika's life, to alleviate the financial strain and allow her parents to focus on what matters most – her recovery.

I grew up next door to Niharika's grandfather in Trivandrum, Kerala, India; I have known the family my entire life. The financial burden of this medical journey has placed an immense strain on her family, threatening to extinguish the light of hope that still flickers within their hearts. Her parents, Maneesh and Greeshma, are a policeman and a housewife. They are grateful for the opportunity for their only daughter to participate in this clinical trial. However, with one income, they are unable to fund the travel costs by themselves.

With every dollar donated, we are extending a helping hand, a beacon of hope amidst the darkness. Your contribution will not only ease the financial burden but also serve as a testament to the spirit of the season – a season of compassion, generosity, and the unwavering belief in the triumph of the human spirit.

  • $20,100 covers Travel Costs for the family of three from Trivandrum, India to Hershey, PA, including five roundtrip flights and roundtrip Amtrak trains, transportation to/from the train station and hospital, and meals during the weeklong stay
  • $45,000 stretch goal covers Travel Costs for the family of three from Trivandrum, India to Mumbai, India, including accommodation, transportation to/from the hospital, and meals during the stay
  • Note: There is no lodging cost in the US as the family receives accommodation at the local Ronald McDonald House.
  • Note: If you are able to donate a flight ticket or travel miles, please let me know.

Imagine the joy that would fill Niharika's heart as she receives the gift of healing, the opportunity to return home and celebrate birthdays with her loved ones. Your contribution, no matter how small, can make that dream a reality.

This holiday season, let us extend the warmth of our hearts and the power of our generosity to Niharika and her parents, Maneesh and Greeshma. Together, we can make a difference, transforming her journey from one of despair to one of hope and healing.

Thank you!
