Help Fireman with Medical Expenses
Donation protected
My brother, Shawn Hebert, is a firefighter in Scarborough, Maine, and a harbormaster in Naples, Maine. He puts his life on the line every day for his community, and now he needs his community's help.
Shawn woke up and headed into work like any other day. As the day progressed, Shawn started feeling worse and worse. His vision began to deteriorate to an unsafe level, so he decided to call his wife, Courtney, to take him home.
Last Wednesday when he awoke, Shawn was not able to open his eyes. After a visit to the eye doctor, he was sent immediately to Maine Medical Center. There, doctors found a tumor on Shawn's brain during a CAT scan and rushed him to have an MRI.
Doctors were able to get Shawn in for surgery that day to drain a lesion and do a tumor biopsy. He still was unable to open his eyes on his own. They scheduled the next surgery but then pushed the date forward to get it done as soon as possible. Sunday, he underwent a second surgery to remove the tumor, but they could not recover all of it because of the location.
Shawn will now have to undergo radiation therapy and one more surgery to remove the rest of the tumor's unrecoverable pieces. As for his eyes' condition, it is a waiting game to see how his brain reacts to the removal of the tumor and radiation. As of Tuesday, December 22, the family has not received the results of the biopsy.
His little girl, Addie, is four years old and is just now understanding the magic of Christmas. The family is crossing their fingers for a Christmas day discharge, so Shawn can be home and comfortable. This unexpected medical emergency is putting a strain on the family, and we want to do anything we can do to help ease their minds.
While we hope for a quick recovery, we know there is a long road ahead for Shawn, Courtney, and Addie. Without knowing the outcomes of the surgeries Shawn has endured and those he has yet to have, we have no idea if the next surgery will be his last, if he will recover fully, and how long he will be out of work.
Your neighbor is in need, please give what you can. Any donation you can provide is welcome with sincere gratitude and warm hearts.
