Help Firefighter Nicole Walls Fight Breast Cancer

We are absolutely devastated to share that one of our local female firefighters has been diagnosed with breast cancer. At the young age of 30, Nicole Walls (Nicky) has been given the news that every single one of us dreads to hear. Unfortunately, as too many of us know, it is impossible to prepare for this.

Nicky is a devoted daughter, sister, and friend. She has been a career firefighter and EMT for 5 years and took her oath seriously when she promised to protect and serve her community, even if that meant risking her own life. She has greatly impacted the lives of all the patients she has come into contact with, as well as her brothers and sisters in the fire service. For those of you who have met Nicky, you know what I mean when I say she has a heart of gold. For example, when she told me she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, she immediately tried to comfort me because she saw how painful it was for me to hear. That is what makes Nicky so special to all of us. She's selfless, genuine, and always puts others before herself, even when she is faced with a situation as tragic as this one.

Nicky is currently in contact with The City of Hope Cancer Center in Phoenix, Arizona. She will soon make the trip to begin aggressive cancer treatment. Imaging has confirmed the cancer has spread to her lymph nodes, but she is awaiting her full body scan to determine exactly how far the cancer has spread. Her oncology team is anticipating a minimum of a year of treatment, but of course, this can change at any time. We are planning to be in this for the long haul, and we will fight with her every step of the way. With that being said, the medical expenses have already begun to pile up, and she hasn't even started treatment yet. As her support system, we can only do so much financially.

Nicole will be fighting for her life and we have the opportunity to come together and show our love and support. With humility, we're asking for your help. Whether that means making a small donation, sharing her story, or sending prayers and encouragement. Anything helps, and we are grateful for whatever anyone can offer. Nicky is a firecracker and an absolute fighter. She has everything she needs to beat this. We just need the financial help to get her on track so she can focus on herself and get healthy. We need her to get healthy because selfishly, we still need her in our lives.
