Hello, I am Jannea, Fiona's Mom. Fiona recently took a bad fall onto concrete and got really injured. She was admitted to the ER then to ICU for several days. She cracked her skull, got a brain bleed resulting in a bad concussion, traumatic brain injury and brain contusions. She broke her collar bone in 2 places and is going to need at least one surgery once she is more stable. Her 2 top ribs right under the clavicle broke as well. She also has a variety of bodily scrapes and bruises resulting in swelling. I made this GoFundMe for her because she is in a situation beyond what the family can help with.
Fiona's whole body is swollen and in pain from the impact of the fall. She can’t sleep comfortably, put on clothing, shower or lift her arm without help and pain. Doctors said this will be many months of recovery. She is on nerve block and anti seizure meds along with pain meds. Her sleep is greatly affected from the TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). Her ear that was bleeding from the impact trauma is plugged up with the blood and it causes her to get dizzy and light headed throwing her balance off. The brain trauma may lead to many chronic conditions, limitations and headaches.
This poor girl is going through so much. She is now out of the hospital and is staying with family in Madison. They are so helpful and accommodating. I have been going back and forth from my town to her 2 hours away to help and be with her when I can.
She requires full time 24/7 care to make sure she is taking her meds on time and to keep an eye on her in case she gets dizzy when she gets out of bed. We have to prevent her from falling which would be very dangerous with her already broken bones and head trauma. She is not allowed to drive or go to work or do any normal activities for a while.
Due to this requirement while she heals, Fiona can’t work for the foreseeable future and still has rent on a new lease, monthly bills and regular expenses.
She has to pay for some of the medications in cash, as they are not as all covered. And we don’t even want to know what other health care bills will be arriving soon.
She is very preoccupied about the financial impact this is taking on her. We and the docs want her to focus on resting and healing her brain and body, not worry about her bills piling up with no income.
So we are putting this out to ask for help so when she is able to get back to her life slowly, she won’t lose her apartment and won’t be plunged more into debt.
We all love Fiona so much. She’s always been such a good kid and this was a really scary accident that is hard on her both physically, mentally and financially. We are so grateful for anything you or your friends can do to support her long recovery. We are all here for you FIONA!
