Join us in supporting Finnegan’s recovery from his IVDD Surgery

Hi, my name is Stephanie and I’d like to introduce you to Finnegan.

Finn is a 6 year old dachshund with a effervescent personality and a bad back. He loves to steal socks and scrunchies, bounding across the house with his prize. He’s a little shy before he gets to know you but there’s no better joy than being one of his best friends.

Unfortunately, Finnegan has a history of back troubles, precluding him from coverage from pet insurance. I created a savings account for him, saving the equivalent amount of monthly insurance payments to use for vet related expenses. I also have worked to ensure his back is safe, doing doggie physical therapy and placing ramps throughout our home.

On March 28, 2023; my worst fears for Finnegan came true. Finnegan began to “drunk walk.” In shock, I watched as his legs buckled underneath him despite his efforts to trot over to my side. Fearing IVDD, I rushed over to his veterinarian who confirmed the worst. It was likely IVDD. I rushed over to veterinary emergency clinic and handed my rapidly deteriorating little one over to their care. When I entered the vet, Finn could walk on his own, albeit painfully. When I left the ER, Finnegan was paralyzed from the hips down.

Finnegan was confirmed to have a ruptured disc, just underneath his ribcage and underwent surgery the next morning.

“Thoracolumbar CT Scan : Right-sided moderate spinal cord compresion by hyperdense material at the level of the T12-T13 intervertebral disc space. Mineralized discs in sit noted at T11-T12 and L4-L5. Marker pin placed over dorsal spinous process of Li.”

Almost a week after his surgery, Finnegan is already showing great signs of improvement! He can wag his tail again, can balance upright for increasing lengths of time, and has even used his hind legs to scratch his ears (he’s an itchy boy).
