On Friday, July 31, Finn was working as a lifeguard when a routine training relay turned into a life-changing accident. As he ran into the ocean and dove into the water, he struck his head on the ocean floor, was briefly knocked unconscious, and suffered a severe spinal cord injury. His fellow lifeguards responded immediately, providing critical care and coordinating his emergency transport to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. Their quick actions gave Finn the best possible chance for recovery.
At the hospital, Finn underwent emergency spinal surgery to stabilize his cervical spine. Surgeons placed titanium instrumentation from C2 through C6 and replaced his C5 vertebra. Finn is currently in the ICU and has already shown incredible determination. He has regained some movement in his arms but still has no movement in his hands or legs. In the coming weeks, Finn is expected to transfer to Craig Hospital, one of the nation's leading spinal cord rehabilitation centers, where he will begin intensive rehabilitation. His recovery will require months of specialized therapy, medical care, adaptive equipment, travel, and ongoing support.
If you are able, we humbly ask for your support. Every donation, no matter the amount, will help ease the financial burden so Finn and his family can focus on his recovery. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser and keeping Finn in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support during this incredibly difficult time.
